Into Ashes

Effect And Cause

Godgames

A tale about the nature of existence.  A very Early story of mine.

…?……?……?……?……?…

…Savinien’s blade found its mark, killing the last of his multitudinous foes…

…placed the lead figure down, on its back, atop of the table. “This is a good point to call it a day.” With that, Ken and the adventurers packed up their dice and books, after which they then walked to college, where the lecture was as boring as ever, until…

…Jacob Instructed, “You had all better make your saves verse boredom!” Each in turn cried out, in anguish, as their characters failed their saves. Jacob commented; “Just as well, I’m back on watch, shortly.” With that klaxons sounded battle stations…

…Tim had finished the first chapter, of his book, and prepared for duty, at the station. Later, as he patrolled the Dockland Beat, a rifle shot came from a warehouse, as he passed…

…Paul, Dave, Thomas and Ann, at Edward’s request paused their game or Crime Beat. Thomas spotted Paul’s books on reincarnation, once Edward had left the room, and decided to have some fun; “Do you really believe In reincarnation? How might it work?”

Ann flicked her cigarette ash, in to the over flowing ashtray; “Well could my character, in the game, be a reincarnation of Ellie, who was my previous character, who was killed, very early in the campaign. I used the same character sheet, for both of them, once I’d erased Ellie’s details, I used It for Tim.”

Silence ensued until Dave said thoughtfully, “Yes, maybe, then that would mean that racial memory was, caused by, a character sheet that had been erased and then photo copied.” Thomas regretted what he had started.

Ann asked, “Could déjà vu be where a player plays the same adventure, with a different character?” With that Edward knew precisely what their wyrd was to be…

…the Gamesmaster shuffled his papers; “Right then, that just cost, each of your characters, most of their sanity, maybe most of ours as well. Everyone, of you, check for madness? I think you cost, all of, us at least a couple of sleepless nights.” He then quaffed some golden mead.

Osgyfu, the apprentice mage, strutted, preened and posed, “If that were true, would that make game players and game-designers the Gods, of their game worlds?” A form

started, to take shape, in a shadowy corner…

…wrote the Xiilit author…

…Ted dreamed…

…rolled the dice…

…a projectionist changed the reel…

…ly, a serene being realised the true nature of existence and went mad…

…geese honked, as the balloon arrived on the moon…

…ly, Bishop Godwin paused in telling Moll his story, of ‘The Man In The Moone’…

…knew it may mean death, to go to the Province of Lovers, but it was her only hope…

…set with Savinien having just finished reciting several passages, from his story, ‘The States and Empires of the Sun’, he left and headed for his patron’s house and death. For on his way there a wooden beam fell.

…y, elated Director rose from his chair and shouted, “Cut! Print!” Then with obvious relief the Director added, “It’s a wrap! It’s all in the can.”

…of electricity struck the computer. The user screamed.

…house was a roaring inferno. It turned the author, and her unfinished novel, into ashes.
